Of Reports and Praise After Feeding the Hungry

Hello, Saints!

I just wanted to follow up this week with a report on how our night went helping City Mission serve one of their dinners. We have a total of nine people come to help them, which was tremendous. They are used to get plenty of help on the weekends, but not during the week. Because we had so many people come, we were able to serve the people at their tables. The City Mission staff had the residents sit down instead of getting their food cafeteria style. We then brought them their dinners and their drinks. Donna Becker got the special privilege of bringing around the ice cream cart to everyone!

Afterwards, I asked the team if they had anything they'd like to say about the dinner and share with the rest of you. Here are some of their comments.:

"The evening gave me as much as we hopefully gave to the good people at City Mission. "

Susie Drakeley

"I felt very blessed having the chance to serve and I believe we were a blessing to those we served. I enjoyed getting a chance to sit down and chat with a gentleman and came to find out he comes to Trinity to attend one of anonymous group meetings. Can’t wait for next month! "

Rose Vescio

"I came away grateful to serve. And felt that even in the small acts of helping with dinner and friendly conversation, we are letting them know we care as they go through the process of rebuilding their lives."

Linda Naser

"What impressed us was how appreciative the residents and attendees were to us. It was a humbling experience yet we felt honored to serve these people."

Scott & Donna Becker

The team all felt it was definitely something we should do on a regular basis. So if you weren't able to come this time we plan on helping them out on a monthly with one of their Tuesday Night meals! If you are interested in being notified of the schedule, please let me know at jamey@trinitywashpa.org or give the church a call. Also, thanks again to those who came and served.

Yours in Christ,

Jamey Russell

Here's a song I've shared once before, but it is one of my favorites and thought it fit well with what the team did on Tuesday.

Prayer:

O God, almighty and merciful, you heal the broken-hearted, and turn the sadness of the sorrowful to joy, Let your fatherly goodness be upon all whom you have made. Remember in pity all those who are this day destitute, homeless, elderly, infirm, or forgotten. Bless the multitude of your poor. Lift up those who are cast down. Mightily befriend innocent sufferers, and sanctify to them the endurance of their wrongs. Cheer with hope all who are discouraged and downcast, and by your heavenly grace preserve from falling those whose poverty tempts them to sin. Though they be troubled on every side, suffer them not to be distressed; though they are perplexed, save them from despair. Grant this, O Lord, for the love of him who for our sakes became poor, your Son our Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Of Allegiances and Elections

We need to remember to pledge our allegiance to the Lamb, not the donkey or the elephant. Our nation, our kingdom, is not of this world.
